DJI Inspire 1 Review

Recently, the quadcopter market has been subject to a revolution, as the continuous appearance of good devices has encouraged more and more people to show an interest in this niche. With this in mind, while there is an insanely big number of quadcopter toys, the DJI Inspire 1 is nowhere close to that.

DJI Inspire 1: The World’s First 4k Flying Camera

The drone which can be considered the world’s first 4K flying camera (as outlined by DJI) is not only one of the best quadcopters available on the market today, but it is also the perfect device for professional use.

Many have said that the DJI Inspire 1 doesn’t score well in terms of design, due to the fact that it somehow looks like a prototype, rather than a finished version of the quadcopter. However, its design turns out to be one of the device’s biggest assets, mainly due to the fact that it has a smart landing gear that allows the camera to take perfect video. Additionally, the DJI Inspire 1 drone is also aerodynamic, which allows it to reach a good speed while flying, but also to be able to make certain maneuvers that would’ve otherwise been difficult.

The camera is also attached to a three-axis gimbal as an effort to ensure that smooth video can be taken even under unpleasant conditions. Together with this, users can also decide to remove the camera and still keep flying the Inspire 1 quadcopter, without needing any specific tool, as the entire operation can be done by hand.

The controller is also smartly built, as it features the camera settings on it, right on the top and left corners. However, those who find it difficult to fly the DJI Inspire 1 and control the camera at the same time, can easily go ahead and pass a second controller to another person.

In terms of technology, chances are that the DJI Inspire 1 is one of the most high-performing drones of this kind available on the market until now. With this in mind, the controller has a smart wireless transmitter integrated that can live-stream 1080p video to an Android or iOS device. Additionally, users can also do interesting things, such as setting up shots from a mile away. To see what the camera on the Inspire 1 quadcopter is streaming, people can easily connect a smartphone, display or tablet to the controller via its HDMI and USB ports.

Another interesting feature is that the DJI Inspire 1 has another camera incorporated, followed by a couple of sensors on its bottom, meant to create a stereoscopic image of the ground as an effort to keep the device steady, without needing to make any sort of adjustment. Thus, making operating it much more comfortable.

DJI Inspire 1 Features and Specifications

Tests have also proven that the DJI Inspire 1 is incredibly easy to fly. Chances are that anyone who has a little bit of experience flying drones can get used to the Inspire 1 fairly quickly, and get some great shots in the meantime as well.

Like other quadcopters available on the market, the Inspire 1 drone is smart enough to automatically return home whenever it is running low on battery, as an effort of ensuring that it will not fall too far from the user controlling it.

The DJI Inspire 1 also comes with an app that can be installed on your iOS or Android phone/tablet to control all of the camera’s settings. Additionally, the app can also be used to change the controller’s settings, thus creating a customizable experience.

This is probably where the Inspire 1 scores fairly low; as the quadcopter promises to do around 18 minutes of fly time on a full charge while recording, which is quite low when compared to other drones. However, the wide range of features and the professional way it integrates with the user’s needs makes most people forget about the low battery life.

In terms of its price, the DJI Inspire 1 certainly isn’t the cheapest quadcopter, as it hovers on the more expensive side of the balance. With a price of almost $3000, the DJI Inspire 1 is worth buying by those who have a passion for capturing high quality shots or for those who are in the filming industry and need a much better way of taking shots from up-high.

Gustavo, thanks for the review. A question, can the camera live stream imagery over, say a commercial service, like a Verizon cell network?

Also, does the operator HAVE to have an iPad or other iOS device to use the unit?

    Thank you…

      Hi Michael,

Yes, you can live stream imagery over to a tablet, phone, or compatible monitor. The controller has a mini-HDMI and USB port that allows you to connect mobile devices or compatible screens/monitors.
